Als wir am Samstagnachmittag, dem 16. Oktober in Eisenstadt im österreichischen Burgenland waren - durfte ein Besuch im Schloss Esterházy nicht fehlen ...
Das heutige Schloss steht auf den Grundmauern der Burg, welche ursprünglich schon im 14. Jahrhundert errichtet wurde. Das Adelsgeschlecht Esterházy, welches dem österreich-ungarischen Kaiser sehr loyal gegenüber eingestellt war, errichtete in der zweiten Hälfte des 17. Jahrhunderts das Barockschloss, welches heute noch an dieser Stelle steht. Imposant ist nicht nur das Weinmuseum im Keller des Schlosses. Dort sieht man übrigens noch das Gemäuer aus dem 14. Jahrhundert - mit einer Dicke von bis zu sieben Metern! Sehenswert ist auch der prunkvolle Haydnsaal, welcher noch heute für Konzertaufführungen genutzt wird. Joseph Haydn stand über 40 Jahre lang in Diensten der Familie Esterházy und war immer wieder auch auf dem Schloss.
